Sad News and Snow

Sunday night we heard about Ben's friend, Bill Stanton, losing his mother to a terrible accident in Rexburg. And we just saw Bill and Sis. Stanton at Ben and Linda's wedding reception, a couple of weeks ago! Apparently, Sis. Stanton and her friend Bonnie Warren (from our old 3rd Ward) were going to a concert at BYU-I. They came to the crosswalk and pushed the button to make the flashing yellow lights appear, and a car was stopped for them, but a truck pulled around the car and hit both ladies. Sis. Stanton was killed on impact, and Bonnie was critically injured.

Haley and Dallin saw the ambulances that night, and realized it was the same crosswalk where a student was killed last December. I remember Haley being shocked at that accident and how close it was to her dorm. After it happened, the city installed the flashing yellow lights as a safety precaution; too bad they didn't stop the driver of that truck the other night. Haley even had a premonition that someone they knew was killed, and she told Dallin about it.

I talked to Ben, and he said Bill is doing okay, but it's certainly a shock. We understand Sis. Stanton's funeral is Thursday, and Megan and I are going to go up together from here.

Sis. Stanton's husband died some years ago, so she is probably very happy to be reunited with him. It helps to think of that, at least.

We're sorry about your doggie dying, Dallin. Having just almost lost ours, we can begin to imagine what you must be feeling, although you had your dog a lot longer time. It's hard to let our loved ones go, isn't it?

I took these pictures of the snow on our apple tree Sunday - the leaves were still green and full, so it made quite a sight, catching all that snow.

I got a call from Phillip this a.m., to let us know he's still alive, he said. They might ship out to Iraq in a couple of weeks, he said. They don't know yet, but they'll be there at least 12 months. Wow, that's so fast! They must be sending them as fast as they can train them. He says he'll resume his dog training when they have an open slot, after he gets back.

He'll be with the Combat Engineers, going ahead to look for mines. Sounds scary!

I also talked to Kattie for a brief moment, and then talked to Elizabeth about their pets and about how Rosa is doing. She said to tell everyone hello, and that Rosa is going to write Aiden back.
