Leto Lives to Shed Another Day!

Mark and I went early this a.m. to pick Leto up, after getting a call from the vet. He looked chipper and very excited to get out of there; in fact, he was whining to leave the whole time we were there! Unfortunately/fortunately for him, he had to stay, 'cause the doctor said "He's a dead dog" if he doesn't get an operation to fix his probable partially-twisted bowel. Even if it isn't twisted, it probably will twist, if he bloats again. He said they kind of feed each other, so that a small bloat will cause a twisting problem, which makes the bloat a bigger problem, which further twists the bowel, and so on. After they tack the bowel back in place, bloating rarely becomes a problem, and the twisting, of course, doesn't happen at all. This operation isn't as expensive as the emergency one would have been, and we knew Seth would want us to do it. We couldn't take Leto home and let him go through that again, so it was go ahead with the surgery or have him put down right then. You can guess what we decided. Yes, Leto stayed for surgery today. Poor puppy. He was so disappointed to be going back in the kennel, instead of home with us. But he obeyed us like a good doggie and went. There's no way to let him know...we just don't want him to have pain like that, ever again. I hope the struggles we go through with our loved ones, including our pets, make us all ever more tightly bound by love. Hunh, Leto? Good boy...
