State Fair

Saturday, Mark and I and Seth went to the State Fair
First, we checked the baking to see how Mark had done
He got one first, one second, one third, and two fourths
out of five entries
We couldn't believe his cheesecake didn't do better than it did,
until we tasted the one we'd left at home...
Yech!
Apparently, the extract he'd used had turned bitter.
No wonder it got second out of two entries!
It's funny, like something that would happen to Anne of Green Gables.
He only got five entries in, so didn't go for most blue ribbons, after all...
That's okay. There's always next year!
The placard above is a large one that tells about Brooks' father,
(that's MegJill's father-in-law)
And there was a special display of some of his sculptures.
The following, and the one above, were some of my favorites:
And Allen didn't even tell Brooks and Megan about his display -
That is so like Brooks!
The Indian painting below was done by a kid in junior high school
Can you believe it?
And here are some other exhibits I liked
Including my favorite quilts:
I hope you get to visit your state fair!

Thanks for all the pictures of the fair! We've been missing it. This is the first year we've missed in a LONG time. Brooks and I really loved seeing pictures of Papa Al's stuff, and we had no idea he had a big exhibit there! We'll have to chastise him for that one. :)
Oh, and I LOVE the ABC kids quilt!

Wow, that's really neat about Brooks' dad's sculptures in the fair. I liked all the pictures too. Too bad Doc's cheesecake wasn't its usual amazing self, because he would have won first for that one too. I hope he still feels motivated to keep entering in the fair in the years to come.
Anyways, I want to go to sleep right now because Hunter has been asleep all day long! It's been soooo nice! I haven't known what to do with myself, I haven't had this much free time in... a long time! Don't worry, he's been waking up to eat, but then he just falls back asleep and so I let him. No way am I going to stop all this lovely sleeping! :)

I'm glad you took pictures, because I had to literally run through my favorite parts of the fair- the art and crafts, photography- and so I hardly got to look at them. Oddly, though I also noticed and loved the ABC quilt! We had fun at the fair, but the kids were all so tired! Oh well, you can't make them have fun. But you can sure throw a lot of money at it trying!

Too bad about Doc's cheesecake! I remember coming over growing up and he was always the most amazing cook!
