In the Past Year I've...

Since I just listed my new resolutions, I thought it would be good to review what I've focused on in the last year, also. That way, next year I can review again and see how I kept my resolutions (part of my fantasy plan for being organized!). I'll include some major events in our year, also. Okay. In 2008 I . . . 1) Moved to a one-story, accessible home in a semi-rural area that I love!! 2) Married off one daughter and one son (to wonderful people!) 3) Started a Blog (betcha can't guess which one) 4) Got a doctor in Pocatello and broke him in ;) 5) Had a son join the Army and go to Iraq, and a niece go on a mission to Mongolia! Good for them! 6) Was gifted with another grandchild (Anya Meuzet) and two more on the way! 7) Got unlimited long distance calling (Hallelujah for that!) 8) Got the two horses situated with Ben and Linda's folks (and am looking for the horse papers, I promise!) 9) Found nienie and cjane, plus a bunch of other fun and creative people on the web 10) Got way thicker hair and strong finger nails (courtesy of Reliv :) 11) Was able to attend Book Club again - Yay! 12) Got most of my upper teeth pulled (and survived!) 13) Thirteen is the appropriate number here: Mark went through some really tough things this year, and he's coping well with them 14) Had my first ever bout with pneumonia 15) Got through Leto's major operation and recovery (whew!) 16) Entered my own creations in the state fair and got 2 firsts! 17) Finished Mrs. Cannon's necklace and got it sent (so glad I got that to her, finally!) 18) Was able to participate in doing my Aunt Evelyn's temple work (amazing!) I'll add more to this as I think of things to add. Please remind me if you think of them. (You'll notice that most of these are things other people did or got through - but I did drink the Reliv! ;)

Wow! It HAS been a busy year! Hmmm. I'll see if I can remember anything else of significance. I don't usually make any new resolutions at the beginning of the year, but I do reflect on all the changes. Sometimes it's exciting, sometimes scary. With the "big move" we have some new, scary and hopefully good changes coming this year! Ahhh!
Oh, I've been drinking my Reliv too. As soon as I noticed all my thick, pregnancy hair getting thin again I became motivated!

Yeah, Megan. I can't do without the Reliv. Never mind my health! It's the vanity that really motivates me!
The New Year is a good time to think about how far you've come and in what ways, and where you want to be next year. Have you gotten off track, in terms of your long-term goals? Have you made some progress toward them? It's a natural point at which to check things out and make any course corrections that you want to.
It's not important to dwell on what is past or lost opportunities, etc., but only use it as a point from which to learn and go on from there, right?
I learned that from Pres. Hinckley. Isn't that nice to know? He made things feel so much simpler!

It has really been a crazy year- especially with you and Doc moving and stuff! And with me and Ben getting married and both of us now with babies on the way! It's fun to look back and see all that you've gone through and survived!

You have had a busy year! I think that I will count in my list of accomplishments Halay and Ben's weddings, too. And a little bit of getting Kattie off on her mission! Hmm... other than that I think I have just tried to keep moving toward the same goals. I don't really make New Year's resolutions, as I am always trying to recommit myself to the same things, but it is a good time to reflect. Last year I had thought that by this time I would be way more advanced in my pointe work, and instead I'm feeling good just to be getting almost to where I was last year! Ahh, the injustice of injury! My running times are definitely worse (injury, too), but I am feeling very motivated to get in better shape than before- hopefully before the spring concert! :) Also, I am always trying to figure out how to do better at reading scriptures on my own. And I am always sure when my house is spotless or all the laundry is caught up, that this time it will stay that way. But the next day I am usually tired of cleaning and so it gets messy again! I do have a goal to read to the kids more often and a definite goal of getting Alex to start reading simple words by the end of the school year. We're working on it and he is improving! Other than that, just be fiscally responsible, try to grow spiritually and, oh yeah, be a nice person! Loves! - Mel

You have had a busy year! I want to be a nice person, too! I enjoy the perspective of looking back on the past year, chalking up the successes, forgiving ourselves for the failures, and assessing what needs to happen to make this next year better or at least on par. Though I am a project-oriented, task-completer, I love the flexible notion of just trying to be good. We are all trying to do that in very different and personal ways.
